Licensing and Regulation
Brown’s Bay Packing Company meets all regulatory requirements and pursues continuous improvement in food safety protection and compliance. We work in concert with several governing bodies to ensure the highest quality service for our customers and adherence to the freshest, safest food handling practices for seafood consumers. Together with our internal teams, these external agencies provide licensing, monitoring and auditing oversight of our facilities, systems and practices:

BC Ministry of Environment (overseeing our safe Waste Management process)
Brown’s Bay Packing Company is voluntarily certified by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) which sets strict international standards, Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and is voluntary certified by BC Kosher and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC).
Testing and verification
Several internal and external professionals play a role in ensuring Brown’s Bay Packing Company provides a safe, efficient and compliant processing environment. Our equipment, systems and practices are monitored daily, monthly and annually. Trained professionals verify our monitoring and prepare factual and accurate information for all auditors and inspectors.
Along with the government and industry audits mentioned above, an external laboratory works closely with our regulatory specialist and managers to monitor and assess any potential environmental impacts of our activities.
We use an accredited Aquatic Toxicology lab that is recognized at the level of Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Good Laboratory Practices (OECD-GLP). Their practices are held compliant by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) for eco-toxicology, eco-fate and physical/ chemical testing. Our auditors and our customers rely on results that are tested, analyzed and verified by this independent, objective and professional service provider.
